This bell produces four different tones. There are four dampers placed at different positions along the side of the bell. The musician chooses a damper, which is pressed and held against the bell, and then he strikes the bell with the hammers. Each damper allows a different tone to be produced. Note that instead of having a clapper inside that strikes against a moving bell, the bell is stationary, with two hammers striking it outside the rim. (See also Bell-Tower Mechanism.)
